Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy
Fans of Car Seat Headrest will be thrilled: Will Toledo's 2011 Band Camp opus "Twin Fantasy" has received an official makeover!
Toledo has been aware all these years that the songs still have room to grow. Back when he was 19, he had recorded "Twin Fanatsy" on a cheap laptop. You could hear "the sound of failure" (Brian Eno) on the tracks. In other words, Toledo's first love, to whom the songs are dedicated, was too big for the recording medium.
But now, in addition to a full band, he has greater financial resources and, above all, the time to think about how everything should sound. The mix for the right drum sound alone took eight months. So Toledo didn't just create an alternative version, but the album he always wanted to make.
For Toledo, it was hard to slip back into being a teenager and relive the painful experiences. He wouldn't write all those sad lyrics like that today. But even though he carries the burden of being a young, hurt teenager, there's more forgiveness than anger that speaks from the songs.
That, Toledo says, is the biggest difference between the old and new work: he no longer sees his story as a tragedy.
